Farmers’ Markets are great places for everyone to taste, smell and buy fresh produce while supporting your local farmers.

We want you to become part of our "Breakfast Hit Squad" so, if you’re organising a Farmers’ Market or have a stall at one, why not look to incorporate some of the ideas on this page in order to ensure your visitors are getting the most out of their day.  Take a look at our case studies to give you some added inspiration!

Breakfast cookery demonstration

Invite a local chef or cooking college to the farmers' market and arrange for them to give a cooking demonstration with the breakfast produce available. You could use the Shake Up Your Wake Up recipe booklet for recipe ideas.

For an added bit of fun, invite two local chefs to compete against each other to produce their favourite breakfast recipes.

Sampling and tasters

Give customers the opportunity to sample a range of delicious breakfast produce. You could also let them sample any unusual or new breakfast produce that you may have whilst handing out Shake Up Your Wake Up recipe booklets or stickers for children.

Promotional offers

Run promotions on breakfast produce during the week. This is an ideal opportunity to link up with the local newspaper and run a special offer for the readers, for example you could offer readers a voucher that will entitle them to a bacon roll at the farmers' market during the week.

Joint promotions between stallholders

Link up with other stallholders at the market to offer "breakfast packs" to give added value to customers.  For example, bacon and eggs, bread and jam.

Competitions

  • To find the best food producer: Store holders and locals could nominate their favourite breakfast food producer, you can include butchers, bakers, farm shops and other producers in the search.
  • For customers: You could hold a competition to guess how many miles the breakfast food you are selling has travelled. The winner will need a prize which could include something from your stall.
  • Breakfast cooking contest: You could organise a competition for your customers or other stall holders to make the perfect bacon sandwich or make an omelette in the quickest time.
  • A raffle: Enter all purchases into a raffle to win a breakfast hamper filled with local produce from the market.

Local flavours

Get the market holders to supply the local farmers' market cafe with their breakfast produce for them to cook the perfect breakfast for the visitors to the market before or after their morning shopping.
