Best Breakfast Winner Announced

It’s official: Tavern Co, Liverpool offers the best breakfast in the country! The restaurant, found metres from the famous Penny Lane, has been awarded the Best Breakfast Award for their Full English, beating hundreds of venues across the UK. The awards, taking place as part of Farmhouse Breakfast Week, recognise the growing trend of eating breakfast out, with 1 in 4 consumers doing so each week.

The Tavern Co’s Full English starts with two traditional handmade Lincolnshire sausages, thick cut back bacon, a fried egg, peppered tomato, Bury black pudding, sautéed mushrooms and baked beans together with extra thick sliced toast made with locally baked bread.

TV Chef and breakfast lover Dean Edwards joined us today as we visited the restaurant to present their award and try the dish for himself and said: “The awards highlighted the range of breakfasts available when eating out and I’m delighted to be able to present Tavern Co with the Best Breakfast Award. Having tasted their award-winning dish for myself I can see why Tavern Co’s breakfast has such backing from their fans. They can count me as a fan now too!”

Tavern Co’s owner Keith Gurney, said: “We are overjoyed at winning this award. We know we make a fantastic breakfast as we cook around 2,000 breakfasts each week, 600 of which are full English breakfasts. It is humbling to know that our customers have taken the time to vote for us.”

We would like to congratulate the Tavern Co for their fabulous breakfast. We had thousands of votes for the hundreds of dishes that were entered into the awards as customers showed their support for their local venue. These awards set out to show the choice of breakfast available at all types of venues from cafes and farm shops to restaurants and hotels and the Tavern Co have proved a worthy winner.

Not only does Tavern Co serve the best breakfast in the UK, the Full English was also awarded the best hot breakfast. Other winners included:

Tried & True cafe in Putney, London won Most Innovative Breakfast for their BBQ Pulled Pork Benedict

  • Pulled pork in a home-made smoky barbecue sauce on top of a jalapeño and cheddar cornbread. The dish is finished off with a couple of poached eggs, chilli butter and spring onions.

Café Alf Resco in Dartmouth, Devon won Best Cold Breakfast for their Alf’s Granola

  • Homemade and packed full of British jumbo oats, dried fruit, nuts, seeds & local honey, served with Devon-made yoghurts.

We're visiting both of these during Farmhouse Breakfast Week too - well, someone has to try these award winning breakfasts!
